Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie fired head coach Doug Pederson after 5 seasons.
Pederson coached the Eagles to a 4-11-1 record this past season and all season his offense was near last in the league with 20.9 points per game and 28th in passing yards with 207.9 yards per game. The owner reportedly had enough of the dismal poor performance from this past season.
" My first allegiance is, what will be best for the Philadelphia Eagles and our fans for the next three, four, five years. It's not based on does someone deserve to hold their job or deserve to get fired, that's a different bar," says Lurie on a video news conference to reporters.
According to sources, Lurie and Pederson differed on the direction of the Eagles offensive system. Pederson wanted a more passing game. Pederson benched starting quarterback Carson Weintz for backup quarterback Jalen Hurts during the latter part of the season, due to Weintz's game on the field has regressed dramatically. Weintz reportedly had ask Lurie various times for a trade. After the Eagles fired Pederson, Weintz's chances of staying with the Eagles rises.

Pederson's coaching record with the Eagles are, 46-39-1, including 4 playoff wins, and a Super Bowl title in 2017.
