Dallas, TX - Former 4 weight division champion and legend Mikey Garcia won a unanimous decision at welterweight over Jessie Vargas on Saturday night at the sold out Ford Star, the training facility of the Dallas Cowboys.
Garcia started off slow like he normally does in fights, he got it going starting in the third round and was dominant throughout the fight. He knocked Vargas down with a brutal right hand in the 5th round. Vargas's face began to swell badly from Garcia's punches. Garcia also landed many punches to the body and face of Vargas throughout the entire fight.
Garcia won 116-111, 116-111, and 114-113 on all 3 judge's scorecards. Chrismckradio had it 116-111 for Garcia (40-1, 30 KO's).
Garcia says after his win he wants a rematch with Errol Spence Jr., who was the only boxer who gave Garcia his 1st loss in pro boxing. And he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao in the summer if he can't fight Spence Jr., according to reports.
With the loss, Vargas falls to (29-3-2, 11 KO's).
