Former WNBA star Maya Moore announced Wednesday on Good morning America, she married the man she helped get out of prison for a wrongful conviction.
Moore married Jonathan Irons over the summer. Moore and Irons appeared on Good morning America and wanted to express the joy they are having and wanted to inform the world of their happiness together.
" We wanted to announce today that we are excited to continue the work that we've been doing together, but doing it as a married couple. We're excited to share this new chapter of life together."
Moore, 31, has not played basketball in over a year. She wanted to focus on helping folk like Irons who been wrongfully convicted, to be overturned, to become productive citizens to society again.
Irons, 40, was sentenced to 50 years in prison back in 1998, for breaking into a Missouri home and shooting the home owner. Due to the state suppressing fingerprint evidence in the case, a judge decided to release Irons from prison on July 1.
Moore, 31, won 4 WNBA titles with the Minnesota Lynx, she was also league MVP back in 2014. In addition, Moore was the 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year, 6-time All-Star, and 5-time All-WNBA first team member. She won 2 national titles with Connecticut.
According to sources, Moore isn't sure if she would return to playing pro basketball at this time.
